Victor Manuel recorded his first singles with Discos Belter in 1965. He achieved success soon with his songs “El tren de madera” and “El cobarde”, with which he took part in the “Festival del Atlántico”. The songs were greatly appreciated by the audience but not so much by the authorities, who considered “El cobarde” as antimilitarist song. The song won but the voting had to be repeated so that another song would be elected as the winner. Nevertheless, Victor Manuel´s name starts to become popular.
In 1969 he becomes a well established artist with several number ones. He records tracks such as “El mendigo” and “La romería”, which is his first great success for Discos Belter. Then he does it again with “Paxarinos” and “El abuelo Vítor”.
In 1970, he leaves Discos Belter to record his first LP with Philips and go on with his successful career.
